Don't snitch on the devs

Many people out there involved with the Android movement love this very one aspect of it...The Development. With that in mind we all appreciate the devs for their hard work developing roms such as ParanoidAndroid, AOKP, PACman, MiUi, & CyanogenMod to name a few. The problem is that major carriers ( Verizon & AT&T ) have made it clear they're against these roms because of its ability to bypass certain things that those companies charge their customers for. Tethering WiFi for example to use the same data you already pay for with your service package to gain that ability to share your 3G/4G signal with your tablet or laptop they want extra money. Doesn't make sense right? Why should you technically pay double for the same internet you already paid for with your monthly charge. So with custom roms they open that feature for you to use. Also another feature unlocked is VOIP calling. The ability to use Google Voice and make Voice Over Internet Protocol calls is awesome feature especially for Virgin Mobile USA customers who are on the $35 plan which offers 300 mins a month allows them to make quick calls over 3G data saving minutes for longer calls and above all saving money. So in this article I am asking all the users and supporters for the Android community to please follow this simple guide line I'm gonna layout for everyone in the event you flash a custom.

1) Do not go to your service provider for help if you soft brick your phone. That would be the last person I'd want to know my phone was rooted and pushing a custom ROM. They will refuse your warranty and also blacklist you letting the company know you intact tamper with mobile devices. Instead seek help from the developer of the ROM you chose. Who better to help than the person who created the rom.

2) Always make a Nandroid Backup. I can not stress how important that is before making any changes to your Android device. So many issues of dirty flashes and soft bricks that could easily be fixed if you left a path back to square one hence a Backup.

3) Read the forum post carefully before installing any rom your interested in. I know some post could have 100+ pages but at least read 10 successful users testimonies before giving the rom a shot. Also read the OP's carefully including the What's working & What's not working list. Reading the channel logs also helps get a understanding of where the development is at.

4) Make sure the rom you are indeed going to flash is compatible for your device. I've seen so many problems of a spefic high profile rom being flashed into a device its not made for causing the phone to hard brick which basicly your phone is paper weight.

5) Follow the developers instruction very carefully. This is a no brainer. The dev knows what they are doing so why wouldn't you follow his/her instructions.

Do not expect your carrier to help you and definitely do not go bragging to the guys at the Verizon store thinking you look smart showing off your phone when actually you look stupid and your feeding info for the carriers to implement blocks to make it harder for the devs to make custom roms for your device. I hope this helps and thanks for reading my blog. Aloha.
